Fiktív Gastronomy

Fiktív is the culinary playground of chef Márton Tatai and his spirited young team, set in the Palace District. An islet in a sea of bars, Fiktív brings modern, minimalist fine dining to the vibrant, untamed heart of the 8th District. It displays a contemporary style with witty, almost impish illustrations on the walls and a kitchen that draws inspiration from Hungarian flavours – though the dishes would hold their own anywhere in the world. It’s not just the chef who defines the place. Sommelier Orsolya Kovács and talented young host Zoé Péli are equally integral. The latter encourages guests to swap the usual wine pairings for her inspired non-alcoholic alternatives. One of the most memorable moments came with the chilled pea soup served as an amuse bouche – an unconventional choice, but bursting with flavour. Even tame-sounding dishes like “brown mushroom, buckwheat, shallot” or “Jerusalem artichoke, quince, polenta”, turned out to be umami-packed flavour bombs. Mangalica pork with lovage and beetroot made the most of what late-winter ingredients can offer. The progressive kitchen and drinks pairing shine especially in their bold, fermented and subtly tart notes. And yet, the interior doesn’t match: stark lighting, furnishings too pristine, and the metal banister upstairs lend a still-unsettled air – despite the concept having been in place since autumn 2024. Fiktív may still be finding its feet, but its direction is full of promise.
