Natura Hill Zebegény

Zebegény is a tranquil village on the Danube Bend, where art, serenity and nature meet, and since 2014 where the warm hospitality and gastronomy of Natura Hill have found a home. Slightly off the beaten track, this eco-minded boutique hotel is home to a restaurant that resonates to its own rhythm. The view is unrivalled, dinners unfold into the sunset, while nature paints ever-changing masterpieces across the sky. The team is cohesive and attentive, with a notable warmth and guest focus – even if, at moments, their service feels slightly choreographed. Chef Mihály Szilvásy has created a kitchen attuned to its surroundings yet one open to spontaneity. There is no fixed menu as each lunch and dinner is a one-off event. The centrepiece is a 4+2-course tasting menu, featuring ingredients from the estate and the bountiful treasures of the nearby Börzsöny hills. Fresh, natural ingredients take the lead with striking attention to detail. On our spring visit, a lovage-butter beetroot purée, a boldly unconventional take on carp with asparagus, and a deceptively simple, but adroitly prepared strawberry dessert cream all showcased just how far creativity and top-notch ingredients can take a kitchen. A carefully selected wine pairing accompanies the menu, though house-made alcohol-free drinks infused with local fruits and herbs are also available - a gesture of quiet generosity.
