Régi Híd Vendéglő

The restaurant is tucked away a bit near the Downtown Bridge in Szeged, and stepping inside feels like we have traveled back a few decades. The decor is pretty eclectic, but the service is nothing like the old-school retro vibes you might expect: it is quick, friendly, and even if it is packed, you will not be waiting long for your food. At places like this, it is worth going for the classic Hungarian dishes. Their fish soup is much better than what you will find at nearby fish taverns, and the beef stew with red wine served with cottage cheese and sour cream pasta is just as great. The presentation is simple, the portions are generous, and aside from a few comfort food touches, the ingredients are solid, and the flavours and seasoning are enjoyable. The dark-roasted Italian coffee made in-house was surprisingly good too. It is also a fantastic choice when it comes to value for money. In its own way, this is a great place to eat, and we would be very happy to have more of these throughout the country.
