Magic can occur when a successful burger joint joins forces with a forward-thinking bistro to show what they’re capable of together. That’s precisely what has unfolded in Szeged, where Kapca Burger and Rézhárs Bistro have merged their talents in the unlikely setting of a suburban cultural centre. The dining area leans deliberately into a retro aesthetic—furnishings have been pre-aged for effect—and while the kitchen’s ambition plays a key role in the venue’s popularity, the leafy garden terrace also draws a loyal crowd. The laid-back, street-food feel of the original Kapca still lingers throughout. Service strikes just the right note: relaxed and friendly in a way that suits the place, yet professional in pace and rhythm. The wine selection is solid, but what stands out is the array of homemade and artisanal fruit juices—many sourced directly from small producers. Among the summer refreshments, the milky Brazilian lemonade is a rarely found treat. Comfort food full of flavour is the order of the day, and at times it is genuinely impressive. The kitchen exudes confidence when it comes to burgers, and shows flashes of real creativity on the bistro front—though it’s not entirely the done thing to repeat elements across different dishes. One starter, built around pumpkin in multiple forms, left a lasting impression: raw and marinated, deep-fried, and puréed with orange, garnished with toasted pumpkin seeds and pumpkin oil. Fresh and technically adept. The final surprise came in dessert form: the “Lime, Pear, Tart” was bright, enduring in flavour, and brought to life by a sorbet that delivered a final twist. Thanks to this Kapca–Rézhárs collaboration, Szeged finally has a high-quality option in the casual dining genre.
