Such a bold name demands they deliver on that promise, and of that there is no doubt, as the minimalist entrance off the bustling road conceals a world of its own. Beyond the warm, inviting interior, a spacious, covered terrace unfolds into the garden, which in winter functions as a sunlit conservatory. Outside, the garden terrace, a bar, and tables entice guests, while the immaculately manicured lawn and plants, along with the yellow-hued lanterns, create a seasonal haven that captivates visitors all summer long. One of A KERT’s strengths is how it maintains the intimate atmosphere of a family restaurant despite its large capacity. The welcome is heartfelt and attentive, and the staff are professional and well prepared, so to linger here is a true joy. Chef Gábor Galgóczi’s kitchen doesn’t rely on the typical nostalgic dishes. The menu is a statement of boldness, featuring Normandy Gillardeau oysters alongside Hungarian fish soup. Steak, fish and seafood are all offered—on our visit, lobster and Hungarian-farmed sturgeon were on the menu. A thoughtful touch is the guide to steak doneness on the table. The chef sails diners on a culinary voyage: beef consommé with tenderloin tataki, Thai tom kha goong soup with tiger prawns, and French farm chicken with pistachios and syrah sauce all arrive as part of a vibrant world cuisine offering.
