Bobo enjoys a truly exceptional setting: housed in a listed building, once an aristocratic casino, none other than Queen Sisi herself once waltzed in the grand ballroom. The historic property stands beside Marczibányi Square, embraced by Haris Park and surrounded by mature trees, a lawn-facing terrace, and elegant garden pavilions. Inside, a champagne bar, ballroom, chapel, event spaces, and even a suite all complement the restaurant. The interior shimmers with peacock-patterned wallpaper and a striking palette of blues, greens, blacks and whites, exuding a sense of polished elegance. Chef Zsolt Szabó’s menu reflects the spirit of the place: worldly in outlook, yet firmly anchored in Hungarian culinary traditions. Classic dishes are reimagined with modern finesse, while freshness and seasonality shape the kitchen’s rhythm. The spectrum ranges from indulgent highlights like red tuna and Omaha fillet tartare to charming gestures such as Bobo’s clever take on fried marrow, or the tagliatelle with cheese and sour cream on the kids menu. A standout was the light, refreshing red tuna tartare with avocado cream, and the curd dumplings with fruit — a delectable sweet and sour adventure for the palate. Elsewhere, execution was inconsistent; with improved technique, the kitchen could ascend to a whole new level. Service is warm, though occasional communication lapses emerged. The wine list is broad and curated with taste, and cocktails are another strong suit. Bobo is a place you can step back from the bustle of Budapest and into a haven of calm and charm — a true urban retreat.
