“Real Mexican food – no reservations” is all the introduction you need. Through a plain door on a drab inner-city street, is Casa Mexa, a pared-back food bar with high stools and just a quiet whisper of Mexico in the decor. Founders Daniel Adair Sanchez Mencias and Hector Ruiz both came from Mexico, taking different paths to create this honest, no-frills street food bar together. The signage is in English, and the Mexican favourites are served without pandering to Hungarian tastes. Quesadillas, burritos, tacos and chilaquiles arrive in plastic baskets on greaseproof paper – four bases you can mix and match with fillings, salsas and extras. For years, they flew under the radar – until spring 2025, when a kindred spirit, the equally unassuming Keanu Reeves, chose them as his go-to in Budapest.
