Cheeky’s Deli

Budapest’s latest party hub is almost certainly the Margit Quarter – now also home to Cheeky’s Deli. When brisket takes centre stage on a menu, it’s a fair bet that pastrami – the star of New York delis – isn’t far behind. And bingo: the twin titans of the deli world, pastrami and Reubens, long sorely missed in Hungary, make even a longer journey here worthwhile. The iconic Japanese breaded pork sandwich, the katsu sando, and their Angus sausage gourmet hot dog also shine. On our visit, the Philly cheesesteak was on offer too: a brawny heap of beef and melting cheddar packed into a giant kifli (crescent roll). If you’re going to do junk food, do it right – as this hip little deli does, with honest ingredients and a sharp eye for quality.
