ÉS Bisztró is located on the ground floor of the Kempinski Hotel, but you can also pop in straight from the street. Its terrace has become a familiar part of the Deák Ferenc Street scene – and during Advent, the festively decorated “Christmas terrace” with mulled wine alone makes it worth a visit. Hungarian and Austrian classics meet modern steakhouse favourites on the menu. It is often here that tourists try their first veal stew, brassói, or even Tafelspitz with bone marrow and tender beef – something that is not easy to find elsewhere in the city. They also serve roasted sausage, a street food favourite, but done properly: made from mangalica pork, beautifully plated, and of course, served with pickled cucumbers, just like it should be. At the top of the menu, you will find dry-aged rib-eye and wagyu flank steak from the U.S. The service is professional, the staff know the menu inside out, and they’re great at helping you pick the right wine. Prices match the central location, so expect things on the pricier side. Still, it is an ideal spot for a business lunch, dinner, or meeting, right in the heart of downtown.
