Hippeace by Főzelékesferi

Ferenc Szatmári first made his name as a food blogger, capturing the heart of discerning diners with his fresh take on főzelék—the thick, vegetable-based Hungarian staple traditionally eaten with a spoon. He breathed new life into school canteen retro classics like savoy cabbage and kohlrabi főzelék, creating recipes so distinctive they’re instantly recognisable. He showed a zeal for blending multiple vegetables with unexpected spices to lighten and elevate these traditionally hearty dishes and in December 2023, he finally began cooking for the public too. His eatery sits on the ever-trendier Klauzál Square, open only on weekdays at lunchtime—just as any self-respecting canteen (kifőzde) should be. Step inside, though, and it feels more like Feri’s home than a casual diner. The daily-changing “Five a Day” menu keeps things seasonal, featuring two soups, two főzelék dishes, and a meat option, plus a dessert to round things off. Wash it all down with a refreshing grape, sour cherry, or apple spritzer from Simon Gyümölcs.
