Jouri Budapest

After the success of Byblos, Jouri opened a few steps down on Semmelweis Street. As the city’s first Moroccan fusion restaurant, it offered North African and, nowadays, even Middle Eastern flavors. The interior is a modern, city-style take on Moroccan design. The service is friendly, and the staff is happy to explain and introduce you to unfamiliar dishes. The menu is built around the classic lamb couscous, tagines, grilled meats, and fish, but there are also favorites like harira soup, pomegranate chicken liver, and tabbouleh. However, things are mixed up a bit by stepping away from authentic flavors: you will also find dishes like avocado quinoa salad and hamburger on the menu. Although the wine selection is somewhat limited, there are a few Moroccan options on the list. On the other hand, the cocktail selection is impressively broad, with unique flavors and creative ingredients. Jouri gives you a taste of Moroccan cuisine, but definitely adjusted to European palates. We would have loved to try some more local-style bread as a starter, and some more juicy the lambchops and kefta. With a little more homey, bolder spices, the culinary experience could be more authentic.
