We first came to know La Tène as a patisserie and specialty coffee shop, but it’s also a great place to start the day with a sweet or savoury breakfast. After opening in Badacsony in 2020, they made their Budapest debut two years later, sharing a tiny space with another Balaton favourite, Kő fagyi?—which takes over in spring and summer, while La Tène moves in for the rest of the year at 35 Bartók Béla Road. People travel from far and wide to taste Lili Szalma and Bálint Hájos’ artisanal desserts and pastries, and the fact that they stay open year-round in Badacsony speaks volumes about their popularity. The plum dumpling roll, Ceylon cinnamon twist, and cream-filled croi-donut are dangerously addictive.
