Majthényi Présház Borozó

10.5 | 20

A time-honoured Hungarian restaurant perched on Kishegy Hill in Balatonlelle, with sweeping views of the vine-covered southern slopes and across the lake to Badacsony. The namesake press house, a centuries-old building, now houses both the winery and the restaurant. Its identity is rooted in a deep winemaking tradition, the region’s natural bounty, and the enduring appeal of Hungarian cuisine. Rather than chasing trends or reinventing the classics, the kitchen leans firmly into tradition. The terrace is attractive, though function is prioritised over comfort – the stiff benches are not especially inviting. Fans of Hungarian cooking will feel at home with a menu of hearty soups, duck liver dishes, oven-roasted meats, stews, gypsy roast, and pancakes. The selection is coherent, though not particularly seasonal. Hospitality is warm, and the presence of the owner adds a personal touch – though the waiting staff could benefit from more training. The wine list focuses on the estate’s own labels, produced by the Konyári Winery, with several options available by the glass. Majthényi Press House welcomes guests with the atmosphere of a bygone era, where time slows and regional flavours take centre stage.
