Nyíregyháza is the true homeland of the nyírosz (a mashup of "gyros" and "Nyíregyháza", but only non-locals call it that), and the cult of the giant croissant-shaped gyros says a lot about how much locals love their juicy, meaty creations – the kind that demand a whole fistful of napkins. At Meating Burger & More, the owners left behind careers in economics and engineering to start flipping burgers, and honestly, Szabolcs county is better off for it. Their patties – partly made with dry-aged beef – are based on their own recipe, and so is the bun. Their onion jam and blueberry sauce are also house specialties and definite sources of pride. You will find them right in the city center, on Kossuth Square, in a pub-style spot decorated with crates of fruit, nostalgic knick-knacks, an old radio, a traditional jug, and even an iconic military helmet.
