Menza Étterem és Kávézó

10 | 20

Settled on Liszt Ferenc Square, near Andrássy Avenue, the location is perfect for success. And that is exactly what Menza has achieved during its more than two decades of operation. When it first opened, it was a bold move to bring retro style back; the atmosphere of old Pest cafés, restaurants, and even homes comes to life within the restaurant's colorful, patterned walls. The spacious interior is complemented by a terrace that gets packed in the summer, and in the colder months, they winterize it. The menu also has a retro vibe, with a leather-bound, old-school feel and a mostly Hungarian selection of dishes, plus a special vegetarian section. They update the menu with a daily lunch special and weekly offers, and the way the food is served falls somewhere between a diner and a bistro. The wine list is focused on well-known Hungarian wineries, with a few international options added in. In recent years, the restaurant has lost some of its old shine, though the concept is still loved by both Hungarian and international visitors. We keep coming back for Menza classics like the grilled duck foie gras with sour cherry sauce and mashed potatoes.
