Neked Főztem

Not far from the beach in Zánka, you will find one of Lake Balaton’s most well-known new-wave restaurants. Neked Főztem is the passion project of Orsolya Horváth-Kertész and chef Csongor Horváth – a true "feel-good kitchen" in every sense of the word. Outside, the retro chairs and tables instantly bring to mind the charm of old-school Balaton resorts mixed with the easygoing vibe of today’s open-air venues. Step inside, and it is like walking into your grandma’s country home. The nostalgic, rustic furniture and cozy decor make it clear: this is a place where food is cooked with care and love – just like the name suggests ("I cooked for you"). The tables are simply set, like you would expect at a family Sunday lunch, and the food has that same homey feel. The rabbit liver is freshly cut and perfectly seared, and the duck breast is taken straight from the pantry and sliced with precision. The flavours speak for themselves, thanks to the high-quality ingredients. The team here is proud of their strong ties to local farmers, and much of what ends up on your plate comes straight from them. The menu is varied, with simple yet elegantly plated dishes – just the way today’s guests like it. The wine list focuses mostly on the Balaton region, staying true to the restaurant’s roots. A nice touch: almost every wine is available by the glass. Neked Főztem started out as a small food stall in 2015, and eventually found its permanent home here in this laid-back "gastro-pub" in Zánka. It’s definitely worth the trip, even if you are coming from farther away.
