Pierrot Café & Restaurant

11.5 | 20

Housed in a medieval building in the Buda Castle, Pierrot is steeped in history. Operating since 1982, the restaurant once enjoyed a golden age as one of Hungary’s most exclusive dining destinations—a legacy reflected in the gallery of past celebrity patrons adorning the walls, from Roger Moore to Depeche Mode. Crisp table settings and a refined atmosphere uphold the traditions that have kept it a fixture in Budapest’s ever-evolving culinary landscape. The menu, too, honours tradition without feeling outdated. Certain dishes, like the crème brûlée, are genuinely well-executed. However, compared to the city’s thriving dining scene, the kitchen would benefit from a thorough reset—much like the service, which, during our visit, felt largely disengaged, with staff spending more time chatting among themselves than tending to guests. Pierrot deserves a renaissance befitting its storied past.
