The restaurant represents a bridge between old-school dining and the new wave—just as the three generations of the Rosenstein family embody continuity and consistency. Even at the age of 82, founder Tibor Rosenstein remains actively involved in the life of the restaurant. What is truly remarkable is that next year marks its 30th anniversary near Keleti railway station—a clear sign that its popularity has never depended on an upmarket location. Indeed, just as many global celebrities have dined here as in the restaurants of five-star hotels. Jewish cuisine may be the backbone of the kitchen, but the menu is rounded out with beloved dishes from the Hungarian bourgeois tradition. Printed in seven languages, the menu is not only practical—it also makes a statement: affirming Hungarian-Jewish identity while embracing the wider world with warmth and hospitality. Recently refreshed but not transformed, the restaurant still retains its traditional look and feel. Rarely is a team so well-drilled and attentive; service here runs smoothly not only in the main dining room but also in several private salons. What stands out is the menu itself—long, nostalgic, and defiantly out of step with current trends, just as the loyal clientele prefers it. A trusted, permanent selection is supplemented by daily and weekly specials, and there are dishes available only on certain days of the week, such as cholent and floating islands. Few genres are closer to the Hungarian heart than the old-school vendéglő. Yet few of them live up to the ideal. This, above all, makes the Rosenstein family's wholehearted dedication all the more exemplary.
