What a brilliant name! (Which refers to the classic gentlemen shoe store that was located in the building.) It is a shame that tourists cannot quite get the old Pest vibe, and they have no idea how nostalgic those sandwiches in warm sweet bun are for us. Among the many average-quality brunch spots in the party district, this former fancy shoe store turned breakfast place is a refreshing choice. The kitchen is not playing it safe, and like a proper brunch place, they close up the shop in the afternoon. Kaptafa offers healthy options too, but it is definitely worth indulging in the guilty pleasures here. One of their brunch classics is called the Defibrillator for a good reason — it is French toast stuffed with cheese, bacon, homemade cream cheese, and mayo. They also make French toast wrapped in poppy seed bread. And in summer, the breaded sour pickles with dill mayo are a must-try!
