Fleischer Restobar

The story has a certain charm: on one side, there is Két Szerecsen, a beloved Budapest bistro that is always packed, and right across the street stands Mr. Fleischer’s long-standing shirt tailor shop. When the elderly tailor decides it is time to retire, he hands over the venue with just one request – that his name lives on. After all, this little spot on Nagymező Street has been the home of his craft for decades. The new owners keep their word: the restobar takes on his name, Fleischer, and the old tailor shop’s original glass sign still hangs inside. Part of the Két Szerecsen ownership team along with manager-turned-co-owner Renáta Rapkai dreamed up something fresh and modern for the space. What kind of place is it exactly? They call it a restobar – and it is not so easy to define Fletcher's style. Let’s just say it is a fusion of global cuisines, mostly pulled off really well, sometimes less successfully. The concept follows the current trend of sharing: let’s split the dishes at the table, or, if you are dining solo, you can try a mix of different items instead of committing to a single, full-sized portion. The kitchen has a strong Asian profile, with Mediterranean notes here and there. Tempura, curry, bao, Chinese biangbiang noodles, and tuna tataki all appear on the menu – but one of the dishes we tasted was a true Hungarian classic: fried chicken leg with buttery potatoes. Great flavours! Desserts are a real standout here – especially the reimagined nudli (potato dumpling) with walnuts and apricots. The sparkling wine offer is also worth a mention, but the winelist in general is well curated, with most selections available by the glass. Last but not least: their lunch menu offers creative, flavourful dishes with excellent value for money.
