Little would you imagine there’s a restaurant tucked above a premium butcher’s shop. Accessed via a staircase from the courtyard, it’s far from a typical setting. Upstairs, the décor takes its cue from aviation: light, modern, and relaxed. The chairs are especially plush, and the terrace is pleasantly undisturbed by the traffic noise of the nearby main road, though the view is less inspiring. Best to keep your eyes on the open kitchen, where meats are charcoal-grilled after being dry-aged for 60 days. Prime cuts grilled with practiced finesse are sourced from the United States, Latin America and Hungary, but it is commendable that the kitchen applies the same high standards to the rest of the menu. This is no simple steakhouse line-up—Tuscan rabbit stew, duck burger and lamb shank also feature. The Argentine Angus rib-eye arrives with spiced mashed potatoes and a pepper sauce, though the sauce might work better served on the side. Dessert maintains the standard: the poppy seed cake with redcurrant sauce is moist, gently sweet and hard to resist. This may not be the place of choice for vegetarians, but is definitely recommended for meat lovers. The wine list is simple, but pairs well with the menu. FlyBy is that rare find: a restaurant that doesn’t dazzle with its looks only to disappoint at the table—in fact, it’s quite the opposite. Locals in Budaörs flock to the butcher’s shop, but the restaurant above deserves clearer definition and wider recognition.
