Hatlépcsős

Hatlépcsős (Six Steps) was originally an ironic moniker. Legend has it that iconic comedian, Géza Hofi, coined it for Muskátli Wine Tavern, whose stairs proved tricky to descend after a boozy summer session. This is Balaton in all its retro glory: celestial marrow toast (made of pork brain) with a slice of bread so huge it spills off the plate, and a knockout alternative: toast piled high with pork knuckle, onion and cheese. The menu is a throwback to chequered tablecloth taverns serving tripe stew with nothing but white bread, and where even in a heatwave, you might crave tripe stew with pork brain or a “light” dish of pork rolled around juicy knuckle and cheese. Hatlépcsős is living nostalgia from the 80s and 90s – and come summer, it’s packed to the rafters.
