Kossuth Kisvendéglő

“No magic tricks, just lunch and dinner!” That is the simple yet striking motto of Kossuth Kisvendéglő in Pécs. The name might make you think of an old-school, retro eatery, but think again. The space is modern, youthful, and bright, with none of that checkered-tablecloth, paprika-scented nostalgia. Still, the concept really is a neighborhood eatery, where the cooking is straightforward, comforting, and unmistakably Hungarian. No gimmicks, no overcomplication. Just honest flavours, made with contemporary kitchen techniques and plated with a modern touch. They serve palóc soup, golden consommé, gulyás, savoy cabbage stew, marrow stew, Hortobágyi-style meat pancake, chicken paprikás, gizzard stew, mákos guba (poppy seed bread pudding), and madártej (floating island dessert). All the dishes we grew up with, but rarely find done right outside of our family kitchens. Here, those old favorites are made with care and integrity. The kitchen is led by Zoltán Sarus-Terjéki and Róbert Reszkető.
