LAMAREDA Étterem és Bisztró

Tucked away on one of Győr’s charming Baroque streets, lined with colourful houses, you will encounter a 17th-century listed building known locally as the Kuster House which is home to Lamareda. Beautifully restored inside and out by the Szabó family in the early 2000s, it has developed into one of the city’s most beloved destinations for celebratory occasions. Yet Lamareda strives to be more than just a once-or-twice-a-year choice. Alongside its à la carte selection, a well-priced daily menu caters to regulars. This dual character is clearly visible: the menu tables are set simply for weekday dining, while the interior room radiates a more refined elegance. What stands out is the wine list, exceptional in its quality and strongly anchored in the nearby Pannonhalma wine region yet extending well beyond. Traditional Hungarian dishes feature, along with fish and sprinkles of Asian influence. Forward-thinking in its approach, the kitchen has long welcomed vegan guests, too. Ingredients are carefully chosen, and every plate is beautifully composed. Our waiter’s professionalism and warmth were exemplary. The duck soup with meatballs, rice noodles, and a generous helping of fresh Asian vegetables was fragrant and flavourful, reminiscent of a Balinese bakso. The oven-roasted lamb with balsamic onions and rosemary-honey pineapple was meltingly tender and juicy – an explosion of flavour. The seasoning was spot on. The side dishes served with it harmonised beautifully with the lamb but were strong enough to stand on their own. The feather-light potato purée balls merited their place alongside. It is Horváth Szilveszter who deserves special mention – one of the few Hungarian chefs who has led a kitchen faithfully and consistently for more than 35 years. And it is Lamareda that remains, unmistakably, the shining culinary beacon in Győr.
