Larus Étterem

A well-located but somewhat hidden restaurant on the Buda side, right next to MOM Kult and Gesztenyés Garden. When we visited in winter, the place was a bit hard to spot without the terrace open – which probably means fewer walk-ins from the street. The complex itself is huge, and together with the event space, it can host several hundred people. When the weather is nice, the terrace is a big draw – it opens onto the garden and gives off a peaceful, almost countryside vibe, even though Alkotás Street and the BAH junction are just minutes away. We were greeted by friendly, attentive staff, and the service throughout dinner was competent, with good recommendations. The international wine list is not too long, but includes a few interesting picks, most of which are available by the glass too. They also offer alcohol-free wines, premium teas, and a broad list of aperitif cocktails. The highlight of our dinner was the mangalitsa pork cheek Bakony-style, served with porcini mushrooms and 'dödölle' (a cross between gnocchi and potato dumplings) — the meat had a great sear, was juicy and tender, paired with an excellent jus. The dödölle was crispy on the outside, soft in the inside. The menu leans international but gives a nice nod to Hungarian cuisine with dishes like 'csorba' (Transylvanian-style sour soup), 'lapcsánka' (potato pancakes), and “Grandma’s homemade lángos” — served with crème fraîche instead of sour cream. Larus is a popular spot for business lunches, but in terms of value for money, its à la carte offering is one of the best on the Buda side.
