“JJ” – Jean-Julien Ricard arrived in Budapest from Paris with a suitcase full of impressive wine knowledge. He opened an entirely one-of-a-kind spot blending wine bar, shop, tasting room and mini bistro. It’s a universe unto itself on Lázár Street: Seasonal plates crafted from partly organic ingredients by small producers are created by “Noémi and her kitchen” as well as guest chefs. There’s no fixed menu, but the place thrives on a kind of uplifting spontaneity – unplanned, yet always polished and precise. As a champion of natural, biodynamic and spontaneous wines, JJ provides a drop of learning and a splash of storytelling with each glass. Winemakers often drop by for themed evenings, tastings and collaborative events.
