NABOO Fine Bistro & Bar

A hidden little spot just off Route 71 – with big ambitions. Naboo is a fine bistro next to a guesthouse in Gyenesdiás, clearly still finding its way, but full of energy and drive. Surprisingly, cocktails take the spotlight here, with a wide range of classics and a few house specials thrown in. The à la carte menu is broad – maybe a bit too broad. You will find international flavours with Italian and Mexican influences, fusion dishes, burgers, and Neapolitan pizza. It is clear the kitchen is not about the chef’s personal expression, but about offering something for everyone – locals, tourists, young and old. They know the basics: the rich beef consommé is made from three types of meat and served with the meat and finely sliced vegetables. The house favourite, linguine al Naboo, comes topped with half a lobster, and it is almost as good as the ones you would get in Italy. One more reason to go: it is open all year round, and the reasonably priced business lunch hints that there is life at the southwestern tip of Lake Balaton, even outside peak season.
