The beauty and charm of the Balaton Uplands are bottled in SKIZO wines – and you can enjoy them not just in a glass, but also as a guest at the Nefelejcs Wine Bistro. The winery’s restaurant is set in a beautifully renovated house right on the main street of Badacsonytördemic. The whitewashed building with blue window frames has been tastefully and simply furnished. Rustic beams and wooden furniture give the interior its character, while modern artwork on the walls and fresh flowers on the tables make it feel warm and welcoming. The bistro carries on the memory of the former Nefelejcs Restaurant, and while it runs on a reduced schedule in winter, it is open all year round. The staff are exceptionally kind and helpful, doing their work with genuine smiles. The wine list is extensive, featuring the full SKIZO selection, available by the glass too. The food menu is tight and creative – a bistro offering in the best possible sense. They use as many local ingredients as they can: the soup is made with grey cattle from Nemesgulács, and the menu includes mangalica pork chop and ham from Istvándy in Káptalantóti. The focus is on simple dishes, but each one has a clever twist. For example, their spring vegetable soup comes with aged cheese-stuffed bulgur balls, and the grilled pike-perch is served with crispy fish cheeks, eye-catching Romanesco broccoli, and a silky caramelized cauliflower cream. The result is a dish that is both creative and visually stunning. We also tried a true Sunday lunch classic: the bone-in breaded mangalica pork chop was flawless, the mashed potatoes boosted with aged cheese for extra flavour, and the cucumber-tomato relish on the side gave it a refreshing kick. SKIZO is a great choice in Badacsony – both for wine and food.
