Páskom 1802 Gasztroműhely

14 | 20

We are at the border of Fejér and Tolna counties, in the village of Lajoskomárom. It is not exactly a tourist hotspot, but it is well worth the detour southeast of Balatonvilágos. The local loess soil is ideal for grape growing, over 200 small cellars have been built in the area. One of them, a 150-year-old family press house, forms the foundation of Páskom Gasztroműhely, where the actual restaurant is tucked into the cellar space below. The Páskom Cottage guesthouse has its own restaurant, but the Gasztroműhely welcomes outside guests as well. The name already hints at a stylish countryside retreat, but what you will find is even more refined than expected: vibrant green grass, a perfectly manicured garden, and grapevines standing to attention. The setting is tasteful and meticulous. The terrace shaded by grape arbors is inviting, and the restaurant itself, nestled under the vaulted brick ceilings, is furnished with quietly elegant charm. The kitchen is run by chef László Csécsei, a respected veteran of the Hungarian culinary scene. The Gasztroműhely serves a limited number of guests, the entire front-of-house was handled by a single staff member. Friendly, professional, and perfectly attentive throughout. During our springtime visit – ahead of peak season – the experience felt intimate. Every dish clearly bore the chef’s signature down to the smallest detail. The menu leans toward complex bistro-style plates: rich in flavour, generous in portion, yet polished and refined. Even heavier, traditional Swabian dishes come with a modern and playful touch: like mangalica pork chop and ear served with székelykáposzta (stew with sauerkraut) and soft potato dumplings. Páskom has definitely put Lajoskomárom on Hungary’s gastronomic map.
