Bask in the views from the floor-to-ceiling windows of this restaurant in the heart of the Buda Castle District of baroque façades along Szentháromság and Úri Streets, with Matthias Church a glorious backdrop. Inside, the warmly lit space blends an eclectic mix of textures—leather, wood, stone, fur, tile, and lush greenery. A striking wine display and groaning bookcases add to the inviting atmosphere. The seasonal menu is lean yet crowd-pleasing, balancing Hungarian and international staples: beef tartare, Caesar salad, goulash soup, and burgers. The wine list is categorised by style, primarily Hungarian, with over a dozen available by the glass and a generous cocktail and alcohol-free drinks menu adds support. The welcome was warm and service remained swift and attentive, despite some hesitation when questioned on the dishes. Our cauliflower cream soup had only a subtle cauliflower taste, its elaborate garnish perhaps overly fussy. The salmon fillet arrived with crisped skin and a perfectly juicy interior. The side of pumpkin purée, roasted squash cubes, yellow beet wedges, beetroot slices, and seared pak choi was enlivened by the acidity of sea buckthorn purée. For dessert, the classic chocolate soufflé was more a lava cake, molten inside, a touch heavy, with mango coulis and passion fruit cream struggling to cut through its richness. The setting is undeniably captivating, and the kitchen aspires to craft refined, layered flavours. A touch more exciting flavours would tempt diners to return time and again.
