Trakta by Nomád

Noszvaj has been a popular hiking spot for years, and its extravagant host is the Nomád Hotel & Glamping. Nestled in a shady, cool valley of the Bükk mountains, they have set up star-gazing bubbles, stairhouses, and bungalows. Their equally stylish restaurant is open to the public: with floor-to-ceiling windows, lush plants, a greenhouse, and vintage furniture, it embodies country elegance. For lunch, you can choose from a small but colourful and interesting menu. They are committed to the region; seasonal vegetables, fruits, and premium local ingredients form the base of their dishes. The menu includes both Hungarian and international-inspired options, with everything from stews to risottos and lasagna on offer. For dinner, there is a changing daily menu. The paprika potatoes we tried were a fresh take: tender confit mangalitsa cheek served with a harmonious paprika sauce and cubes of potato the size of a fingernail. Despite the small size, the potatoes still have a nice firm texture. The slightly rustic poppy seed pasta comes with a vanilla sauce and a few meringue pieces for a crunchy texture. Overall, the dishes are simple but could elevate their rating with a bit more refinement and prettier presentation. The wine list offers a great selection from the Eger wine region, with dozens of white and red items available, most of which can also be ordered by the glass at very reasonable prices. The spirits selection is also impressive. Trakta, like Nomád, wants to offer something out of the ordinary. A lovely culinary adventure in the forest.
