Vendéglő a Pisztrángoshoz

Half an hour’s drive from Miskolc, in the tranquil Garadna Valley, lies a restaurant dedicated to local fish specialities, just a few hundred metres from the Lillafüred trout farm, where the open-air fish fry, Erdei Halsütöde, has been a crowd favourite for decades. Building on this tradition, owners György and Ágnes Hoitsy opened Vendéglő a Pisztrángoshoz as a more refined sibling to the original. Although the website claims the restaurant is fine dining, it is rather a quality-driven, modern inn. Friendly staff proudly present their home-reared trout in both starter and main course formats, grilled whole or filleted—and they were happy to adapt a dish on request. The cooking and presentation here are notably more refined than at the fry-house, and the menu goes beyond fish to please a broader audience. During our visit, wild boar ragout and paprika mushroom were also available, both showcasing local ingredients from the surrounding forests. Not only the trout, but a good part of the herbs and vegetables come from the owners’ garden. The fish soup is no rustic cauldron affair, but a plated restaurant version, elegantly composed with milt, roe, carp fillet and smoked trout. A standout curiosity on the menu is the fish ramen, enriched not only with trout but also sturgeon ‘ham’ and ‘shrimp noodles’. Most dishes are paired with carefully chosen wine suggestions. The drinks list offers well-selected Hungarian wines, craft beers, house-made lemonades and cordials, as well as both domestic and international spirits. Hikers, bikers and motorcyclists exploring Bükk will all find particular delight in this gem in the forest.
