Luu Trong Vinh and Pisti Szelei’s ZEN Eatery, located on Hunyadi Square, is the joyful creation of three ambitious young entrepreneurs. Housed in an unassuming grey apartment block in Terézváros, the restaurant’s understated appearance contrasts with the vibrant dining experience within. This is no ordinary eatery—were it just a standard canteen, it could hardly aspire to two-hat acclaim. Yet ZEN Eatery excels, delivering a creative take on Vietnamese cuisine with both subtle refinements and bold reinterpretations. The ever-changing menu presents imaginative combinations such as 'bolognese gyoza,' Norwegian fish soup with an Asian twist, shrimp, and trout roe, as well as the crowd-pleasing yuzu apple pie. Each dish is artfully plated, balancing compelling contrasts in texture and taste to delight the palate. Portions are generous, and the wine list, though compact, is well considered, complementing the eatery’s relaxed yet refined atmosphere.
